PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & CURRICULUM SUPPORT

Teachers (of all subject areas!) are often tasked with delivering sex ed to their students, without adequate training, practice, content-familiarity, or curriculum guidance. The Talk provides in-school trainings that not only support schools in developing relevant, sustainable sexuality education programming, but also help educators to feel comfortable, confident, and prepared to facilitate these essential conversations with students.

WHAT SCHOOL LEADERS ARE SAYING

  • “Rachel is such a clear and approachable educator. I think that's what makes it easy to discuss with/listen to her explain such challenging or 'uncomfortable' topics. There is no judgement from her about where a person is coming from, the questions they have, their wonderings. I also love LOVE that Rachel wraps the social emotional aspects of sexuality within her conversations. It helps with all of the overlapping stuff that happens with kids: awareness, puberty, friendships, social media, gender 'roles', self esteem. It's so many things!”

  • "Warm, inclusive, and an expert on her important and far-reaching subject, Rachel's Sex Ed workshop for our school’s entire adult community was so well-recieved that parents invited her back for a second program--one focused entirely on middle school topics. As with the first, Rachel welcomed and fielded (some quite personal) questions and comments, and her open demeanor assured active and easy participation. Thank you, Rachel!"

  • “Rachel Lotus is the real thing. When it comes to progressive sexuality education, there is simply nobody better. A charismatic, authentic, unblinking, honest, straight-forward communicator, Rachel has a remarkable ability to take the edge off the discomfort, guilt, and preconceived notions that we bring to sex-ed by creating an atmosphere of open, judgement-free engagement. In addition to working with Rachel on four excellent workshops, I have had the great pleasure of observing Rachel's joyous work with kids. If only she could time travel back to my youth - being in one of her workshops would have changed so much for me!”

WHAT KIDS ARE SAYING

  • " You can tell Rachel anything, and she will be totally cool, not react, and help you feel comfortable."

  • " The Talk has made me feel more confident. I've learned that it is normal to be feeling lots of things when going through puberty."

  • "I was pretty confused about this "stuff" before. Now I know more and even feel more comfortable talking to my parents. "

  • "The Talk was a safe space where I could open up about things that I had never told anyone. I was supported when I asked questions that were embarrassing and learned a lot about my body and how to deal with situations that might come up now that I am going to middle school."

The Talk: Sex Ed 2.0 SINGLE WORKSHOP

While many of us want to initiate conversations with our children about sexuality, we aren't sure what to say, how to say it, or when to begin.

The messages we send to our children about sex, bodies, gender, relationships, consent - and more! - are deeply informed by the way we learned to view these things, ourselves.

This is already challenging, since so few of us had positive sex ed experiences (if we had any, at all). Making it harder still, today’s youth are confronting realities we did not have to face, like social media, sexting, and the ubiquity of online porn.

The Talk: Sex Ed 2.0 provides attendees with guidance on all of the above, plus actionable tools, strong evidence to support their efficacy, and a space to share concerns and get answers.

*Distinct workshops available for parents of elementary, middle, and high school-age youth.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

  • "The Talk has been such a special experience for my 10 year old daughter. I had hoped she would come home armed with information, which she did. More importantly, and something I did not anticipate: she came home proud and empowered. Rachel catches that moment before kids are self conscious and inhibited and it’s really amazing. I highly recommend this class!"

  • "The Talk is essential learning for people of all ages. It sparked a very important conversation in our family and amongst our friends concerning the need to thoughtfully educate our kids about sex, gender and puberty. Our child absorbed it all with great curiosity. We will be back for another session."

  • "Rachel Lotus is the most compassionate, creative, generous and approachable teacher I have come across. This education is so relevant and important in today’s world...If only every child could spend some time in her classroom... Our world would be a much kinder place.“

  • "There is no doubt in my mind that Rachel has empowered and brought comfort and ease to my child during this intense time. The almost immediate trust and safety she establishes within these groups is magical."

  • "My daughter loved this class so much! She was initially nervous before taking the class and now she can’t wait for the next session to begin. My daughter became confident and excited about all the changes her body is making. She’s equipped with knowledge and not afraid or embarrassed. She really gained a lot of confidence from this class! And she raves about Rachel!Thank you for creating a safe space where my daughter can be herself! What you do is truly special!"
